Joint and Muscle Pain

Causes for joint and muscle pain can be chronic, such as arthritis or cumulative trauma (years of doing the same movement.) Or they can be acute, such as a muscle sprain/strain, contusion from a fall or repetitive trauma such as from shoveling snow.

Regardless of the cause of your discomfort, physical therapy can help restore mobility to stiff joints and improve your range of motion. Techniques used by PTs include passive range of motion, active range of motion, modalities to help control inflammation such as electrical stimulation, iontophoresis and ultrasound. Even pain from chronic conditions such as arthritis and chronic back pain can be reduced or eliminated with proper physical therapy.
