Carpal Tunnel Therapy

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), a common condition of the wrist and hand, is caused by pressure on a nerve in the wrist. People who suffer carpal tunnel syndrome feel pain, weakness, or numbness in their hand or wrist. Often, their grip strength is diminished and they find it hard to make a fist or grasp small objects. In some cases, carpal tunnel syndrome affects the use of the whole arm.

Surgery for carpal tunnel can be performed by physicians, however, in some cases, people can find relief through physical therapy treatment. Physical therapy can help relieve pain and numbness in the wrist and hand by educating people on avoiding aggravating factors, proper nerve gliding exercises, postural awareness when sitting at a computer and using a splint to keep the wrist in neutral which alleviates the irritation on the nerve.
